The university will hold an Information Technology Security Awareness (ITSA) Day on Thursday, October 1, 1998 in the Reitz Union Auditorium with general sessions beginning at 8:30 a.m.

I expect that you have seen the promotional information, which has already been distributed. To reiterate, the morning session will deal with basic physical security of computer resources and access to information, virus protection, and basic LAN security. We hope that each department, center and college office will send office personnel to these sessions along with your system administrator.

The afternoon sessions, designed for network administrators, will focus on network and security issues with presentations by speakers from major national firms. These sessions will emphasize Internet security guidelines such as firewalls, encryption, security policies, and transaction security.

Please visit our web site at http://www.itsa.ufl.edu. We are all aware of how fragile the security of our information resources has become in recent times. The issues addressed in these sessions are of critical importance to all of us. Please help us reach your personnel entrusted with securing your vital information.
