Announcement of Interim Dean for College of Education

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Ben Nelms, Director of the School of Teaching and Learning, has accepted the position of Interim Dean for the College of Education. I have great confidence in Dr. Nelms and am convinced that he will represent the interests of the faculty and students in the College of Education with great skill.

Dr. Nelms joined the UF faculty in 1990 in the area of English Education. He previously served as a professor of English Education at the University of Missouri. At Missouri, he was the director of graduate studies in Curriculum & Instruction, and received the Byler Distinguished Professor Award and the Faculty/Alumni Award for teaching. He is the former editor of the English Journal (1987-94) and English Education (1972-78). He has directed the Florida Writing Project and the Missouri Writing Project. His works include the book, Literature in the Classroom, published in 1988. Dr. Nelms completed his doctorate at the University of Iowa in 1967 and his research interests include the teaching of writing and literature for children and adolescents.
