Below is the Board of Regents announcement regarding the UF presidency:

Chancellor, Young reach agreement on UF presidency

University of Florida Interim President Charles Young will continue to serve the university, Chancellor Adam Herbert announced today.

This agreement follows a number of conversations during the last few weeks, and those conversations will continue with regard to Young becoming the permanent president.

“I have expressed to Dr. Young the strong support he has from both the Board of Regents and the university community,” Herbert said. “The Board is interested in Dr. Young serving as permanent president as soon as that is possible, and he has agreed. I am excited for the University of Florida, the State University System and all of Florida. He brings outstanding credentials and a vibrant passion for education. We are, indeed, fortunate to have such a highly respected educator at the helm of Florida’s only member of the Association of American Universities.”

At this time, Young will remain as interim president because of health concerns within his immediate family. At his request, Young will receive a three-quarter appointment during this period of transition.

“I am confident that this will enable Dr. Young to fulfill his responsibilities in an effective and timely manner,” Herbert said. “One of his highest priorities will be to fill senior- level academic and administrative positions.”

Young said that his experience at Florida’s oldest, largest and most comprehensive institution has been rewarding and fulfilling.

“I remain eager to continue serving this fine university,” Young said. “I have been warmly received by members of the community and university faculty, staff and students. My wife and I deeply appreciate the concern and flexibility offered to us during this time.”

BOR Chairman Thomas F. Petway, III, said, “I am extremely pleased that President Young has agreed to stay at the University of Florida. In light of his commitment, the work of the Regents Selection Committee and the Search Advisory Committee is completed. I thank the committee members for their service.”
