Research & Graduate Programs will again offer the Research Opportunity Fund to provide early funding for new, potentially large-scale, faculty-initiated research programs that have the potential of becoming permanent, externally funded programs within the University of Florida.

Priorities for support include: (1) Major research initiatives that are intercollegiate and interdisciplinary and are intended to be funded by external sources and accompanied by full indirect costs; (2) Matches for major research initiatives that are being developed by (and with financial resources from) colleges; and (3) Partnership programs with IFAS and Engineering that stimulate broad University research initiatives (proposals will be expected to include appropriate contributions from the departments and other budgetary units involved).

Awards are generally for one year of funding. Opportunity Fund grants are intended to be used as “seed” funding and modest budget requests are encouraged. The deadline for receipt of proposals in RGP is 5 p.m., January 15, 2001. Notification of award status will be made on or before April 15, 2001. Guidelines are now posted at: http://rgp.ufl.edu/rgp/proposalguidelines.html

Please circulate this information to your faculty. Questions about this program may be directed to Carole Oglesby at 352- 392-4804 or caroleo@ufl.edu
