The ISIS course registration and information system is a state- of-the-art service we provide to UF students. A few years ago, the decision was made to add a course textbook information service to this system. Students who register for courses can click a button and instantly learn which texts and course materials they will need. They can purchase these well before the semester begins if they wish to begin reading. Any bookstore in Gainesville can access the database to see which texts are being adopted. They can use this information to order new texts and to buy used texts to compete fairly for business. Consequently, students have multiple venues at which to shop.

This system has received universal applause from students who have used it and found information about adopted texts. On the other hand, some students have been disappointed to find that adopted texts have not been entered for some courses.

To best serve our students, I want to make it clear that it is University policy that faculty and departments are to enter all information about adopted texts and course materials in the database by the appropriate deadline date each semester. For the Spring 2002 semester, the deadline date is October 30, 2001. Information can be entered through the World Wide Web at the following address: http://www.textadoption.ufl.edu
