Chief Stevens, University Police Department

The University of Florida Police Department (UPD) is issuing a property protection notice to you and your department reference the recent thefts of ceiling mounted and portable LCD Projectors. These projectors range in value from $8,000.00 to $12,000.00. The UPD has identified the thefts of these projectors as a potential problem at the University of Florida. Similar thefts have been noted by campus law enforcement agencies from around the nation indicating that this is a problem at universities all over the country.

The UPD would like to forward a few theft prevention tips in the hopes of reducing the loss of these and many other valuable items.

*	Lock all unused rooms when possible.
*	Please report suspicious and/or unknown persons in
office and class room areas to police immediately.
*	Immediately report any unusual sounds or alarms from
rooms that may or may not be secured.
*	Remain alert for unusual items being carried by unknown
persons. Watch for suspicious person(s) carrying a ladder
into a class room after normal hours of operation. Report
anyone carrying large items to a waiting vehicle, or
someone in possession of large canvas style carry bags.
*	Inventory who has keys to your campus buildings, and
are they supposed to have them.
*	Make sure serial numbers and UF ID numbers are properly
attached to all equipment and are recorded in the event
	of theft.
*	Consider installing security alarms with sensors that
	will sound if equipment moved.
*	All suspicious activity and persons can be reported by
	dialing 9-1-1.
