Janie M. Fouke, Provost

Dr. Zina Evans, associate director of admissions at the University of Maryland, has been named Assistant Provost and Director of Admissions at the University of Florida, effective August 1, 2006. Dr. Evans earned her bachelor’s degree in social ecology at the University of California, Irvine, her master’s in human development, counseling, and family studies from the University of Rhode Island, and her doctorate in college student personnel administration from the University of Maryland.

Prior to working at the University of Maryland, where she has been since 2001, Evans served as director of research for the National Association for College Admission Counseling. She also worked as admission supervisor for the Office of Undergraduate Admission and Relations with Schools at the University of California, Berkeley. From 1993 to 1999, she was assistant director of the University of Maryland’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Dr. Evans has admissions experience in large, state universities which have more applicants just from the children of alumni than there are openings in the freshman class. Her experience and skills will be a great contribution to the university. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Evans to the University of Florida.
