Please remind your faculty of our Faculty Development “Conversation about Shared Governance: Part II” scheduled for January 11, 2007 at Emerson Alumni Hall. This workshop and discussion features Dr. Bernice Durand, Vice Provost for Diversity and Climate, Professor of Physics, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Dr. Frank Cerra, Senior VP, Health Science Center, University of MN.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with a panel discussion (including Task Force on Shared Governance Implementation co-chairs Anthony Brennan and Jean Larson, Senate Chair Danaya Wright, College of Medicine Faculty Council President Dave Paulus, Senior VP and Provost Janie Fouke and Senior VP Health Science Center Doug Barrett). Our visiting speakers, Drs. Durand and Cerra, will address attendees beginning at 9:50.

Concurrent afternoon workshops from which attendees may select topics of interest will be held from 12:45-1:45 p.m. after our President sponsored lunch and open discussion period. The workshop topics include:

1. “Faculty Senate Councils: Their Role in Shared Governance”
2. “Implementing Shared Governance in HSC Colleges”
3. “Developing Constitutions: Positive Strides”

The shared governance “Conversations” conclude with a general session during which representatives from the College of Design, Construction and Planning and the College of Dentistry will share with attendees a few best practices discovered as well as concerns and challenges met during their current implementation of shared governance.
