Janie M. Fouke, Provost

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Pramod Khargonekar, Dean of the College of Engineering, has agreed to chair the search committee for a new dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The ten-person committee will begin meeting immediately to formulate a position description and appropriate advertisements. They will spend the fall semester soliciting nominations to create a broad and diverse pool from which to select candidates for visits to campus in the early spring.

I am looking forward to this search. We have a terrific College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and I suspect that a large number of highly qualified, talented, and experienced folks will be interested in this opportunity.

Please remember that it is the job of each of us to help the committee in creating an applicant pool. When the position description is available, please use every communication method at your disposal to distribute it widely. No committee can possibly have the breadth of professional contacts that you collectively have. Please use your network on behalf of the College to make certain that the broadest possible group of individuals become aware of this opportunity.

A complete listing of the committee members follows this memo. We will have a website available during the search so you will be able to follow the progress of the search. As always, minutes of the meetings will be posted there.

The CLAS constitution has an additional method for assisting with dean searches. They elect a small group of people to advise the president. Dr. Glover has asked that this committee be identified and I assume that this election will be forth-coming.
