Patricia Telles-Irvin, Vice President for Student Affairs

Beginning this morning, Monday, Oct. 22, when students log on to ISIS to register for classes, they will be asked to provide emergency contact information before they can proceed with registration.

This is part of the university’s ongoing effort to build a comprehensive emergency notification plan, which includes a multi-prong approach. Existing emergency notification methods include e-mail, posts on the UF home page and news releases.

While we will maintain these methods, a new text messaging service will provide a way to reach students more quickly than current methods allow.

The information students will be asked to enter includes work, local home, and emergency contact information for the student and their designated emergency contact (most likely a relative).

The emergency contact information will not be available or disclosed to any party other than the university or its contracted emergency text messaging provider. This information also will not be used for any purpose other than emergency contact. For that reason, the information is exempt from public disclosure under Florida’s open records law.

Any questions should be directed to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs at 392-1265 or ufvpsa@ufsa.ufl.edu.
