Minus Grades

In accordance with the Faculty Senate resolution of December 14, 2006, the University of Florida’s grading scale will be changed effective with the Summer 2009 term to include minus grades. The decision was made in order to provide faculty with more options for assigning grades.

This comparative chart depicts the changes to the official grading scale:

B+ = 3.5 B+ = 3.33

B- = 2.67
C+ = 2.5 C+ = 2.33

D+ = 1.5 D+ = 1.33
D  = 1.0 D  = 1.0
D- = 0.67
E  = 0.0 E  = 0.0
E0 = 0.0 Never attended or participated
E1 = 0.0 Stopped attending or participating prior to the end of class
I = 0.0 Incomplete

Please review all of the relevant issues within your programs and take appropriate steps to insure a smooth transition to this new scale. Some common issues requiring action include:

  • Amending Summer 2009 syllabi to reflect the addition of minus grades by March 2009 (Advanced Registration for Summer)
  • Reviewing course prerequisite parameters monitoring (probation, holds, tracking)
  • Reviewing college specific guidelines for academic
  • Reviewing Dean’s List requirements
  • Reviewing Honors GPA requirements for graduation
  • Assessing SASS audit implications
