New Faculty Orientation

It is time to begin planning for our New Faculty Orientation to be held on August 17 and 18, and September 7, 2011. The program will inform new faculty of the many services and resources UF has to offer.  This year’s New Faculty Orientation has been scheduled over three partial days, rather than one long intensive day. We hope this will make it easier for faculty members to attend. Below are the dates and locations along with a tentative list of topics:

Wednesday, August 17, 8 am – 2 pm, Emerson Alumni Hall:
Information Fair; Tenure and Promotion; Academic and Undergraduate Affairs; Shared Governance (Faculty Senate); Benefits and Retirement

Thursday, August 18, 8 am – 2 pm, Emerson Alumni Hall:
Sabbaticals, PDLs and FEOs; Libraries and Bookstores; Campus Security; Technology for Teaching; 5 Policies Every Administrator Should Know (General Counsel’s Office)

Wednesday, September 7, 8 am – 2 pm, Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art
Assisting Disruptive or Distressed Students; Parking; How to Use the UF Foundation; IT Security; Grants; UF Cultural Plaza

I:  Register Your New Faculty: Please fill out the New Faculty Information Form and submit it electronically to Ellen Sattler at esattler@aa.ufl.edu by Monday, August 1, 2011.  The form can be found at: http://www.aa.ufl.edu/aa/facdev/orientation/info.shtml

If you have additional hires confirmed after August 1, please contact Ellen Sattler at esattler@aa.ufl.edu ASAP.  New faculty, for the purpose of this orientation program, are persons new to the university this year and/or appointed after the last New Faculty Orientation that was held August 19, 2010.

The information we receive from you will be used to invite new appointees to Orientation and to send information about various university programs developed specifically for them.

II: Register for the Information Fair: If your unit/college would like to participate in the Information Fair, please submit an Information Fair Registration Form, which can be found here:

Note that we have two available dates for the Information Fair: August 17 and September 7. Please select one date only. Information Fair spaces will be assigned on a first come/first served basis and spaces may fill up quickly. Submitting a form does NOT guarantee a spot in the Information Fair.
