Nancy E. Paton, Vice President for Strategic Communications and Marketing

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen Orlando as Assistant Vice President for Communications, effective Oct. 11, 2019.  Previously Interim Director of Communications, Steve was selected after a competitive national search. 

As Assistant Vice President for Communications, Steve will lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that advance our institutional communications, including media relations, issues and crisis management, and internal communications. 

He was chosen as a finalist from a national group of talented communications leaders by a university-wide search committee chaired by Aaron Hoover, executive speech writer, President’s Office.

Steve has served the University of Florida for 23 years in positions of increasing responsibility including Associate Director of UF News & Public Affairs, Interim Associate Vice President for Marketing and Public Relations, Senior Director, Media Relations and Director of Print/Online Media. Prior to joining UF, Steve was a reporter for the Tampa Tribune.

He’s a double Gator and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Master of Arts in Mass Communications.
