UF Religious Observances Policy

Joe Glover, Interim Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

With Spring 2025 classes set to start Monday, please remind your returning faculty, and make new faculty aware, of the UF Religious Holidays Policy for accommodating students’ religious observances.

In a nutshell, we expect students and faculty to work together to allow students the opportunity to observe the holy days of their faith. A student should inform their faculty member of conflicts with class attendance, activities, tests or exams, and the faculty member should then accommodate the student’s religious observances.

Additionally, if a faculty member knows that a number of students are likely to be absent because of a religious observance, the faculty member should not schedule a major exam or other academic event during that time. Dates when issues may arise may include Lent and Easter (March 5-April 20), Ramadan (February 28-March 30), and Passover (April 12-20).

Please review the policy for further guidelines and additional details. Many thanks for your assistance in bringing this policy to the attention of your faculty.
