Change in Tuition Waiver Policy

Karen A. Holbrook, Ph.D., Vice President for Research, Dean of the Graduate School

Effective Fall 1998, all graduate assistants holding appointments from .25 to .74 FTE will receive a tuition waver for 9 credit hours each Fall and Spring semester. Currently, graduate assistant holding .50 to .74 FTE appointments receive a waiver for only 8 credit hours. Since the vast majority of graduate courses are 3 credits, this policy change will permit graduate students with higher FTE appointments to take three courses per semester. This will allow students to complete their coursework more quickly and move into their research programs. In addition to the benefit to the students, the policy change will be helpful to us in reaching our targeted increase in graduate enrollment.
