In support of the Universities’ commitment to sustainability, Purchasing Services and the Office of Sustainability have developed a Sustainable Purchasing Directive. This directive can be found on the web at http://www.purchasing.ufl.edu/main_sustainable.asp.
Purchasing is continuing to work with vendors to identify additional products which are manufactured using recycled materials, are energy-efficient, carry a sustainable certification, contribute to reduced waste and support UF’s goals in sustainability.

In light of a projected budget deficit of between $20 million and $30 million, a campuswide hiring freeze is being implemented effective immediately. The hiring freeze will apply to all faculty and staff positions; however, exceptions will be considered for those positions that are funded from non-state sources such as contracts and grants and clinical revenue. The 2007 Florida legislature created Florida Statute 1001.706 stating:
“Except as otherwise provided by law, university employees are public employees for purposes of Section 112 of the Florida Statutes and any payment for travel and per diem expenses shall not exceed the level specified in Section 112.061.”

Faculty members being considered for tenure, permanent status, and/or promotion in the academic year 2007-2008 must receive a copy of this memorandum along with the University’s “Guidelines and Information Regarding the Tenure, Permanent Status and Promotion Process for 2007-08” (located at www.aa.ufl.edu/aa/aapers/2007-2008/TPGuidelines2007-2008.pdf). Both documents should also be given to new faculty to familiarize them with our tenure and promotion process. Faculty should be aware, however, that the “Guidelines” are updated annually.
