Minimum wage will increase on January 1

Effective January 1, 2006, Florida’s minimum wage will increase to $6.40 per hour. This change will increase the state’s minimum wage to .25 cents more than the current $6.15 per hour minimum wage and $1.25 more than the national minimum wage of $5.15 per hour.

Florida’s minimum wage increase was created in a constitutional amendment approved by voters on November 2, 2004, and covers all employees in the state covered by the federal minimum wage. […]

The Provost’s Office is pleased to announce the sixth year of the Provost Faculty Fellow Program. The program provides an internship experience for faculty members interested in gaining some hands-on experience in university administration. The Provost Fellows work on special projects with the Provost or Associate Provosts and also participate in various activities of the office during the semester. Faculty and departments are asked to submit their Spring term textbook adoptions at http://www.textadoption.ufl.edu using their GatorLink username and password. Please submit this information by October 21st, 2005.

The posting of textbook requirements by this deadline helps students, as well as the local bookstores. Students can view course textbook requirements during registration on ISIS. Meal and Mileage Reimbursement Rates for Travel Effective October 1, 2005

The Federal General Services Administration (GSA) has changed the standard mileage rates for use in computing the reimbursement for operating an automobile for business purposes.

Beginning October 1, 2005, the standard mileage rates to reimburse for the use of a privately owned automobile for business purposes will be 48.5 cents per mile for all business miles driven. This increase is in effect only until December 31, 2005. I anticipate GSA announcing rates effective for 2006 sometime this Fall.

On July 1, 2005 the City of Gainesville implemented a new ordinance related to false fire alarms. The ordinance requires an annual registration fee for all alarm systems and provides for the assessment of fines for false alarms, the purpose of the ordinance being to reduce the occurrence of false fire alarms which in turn require response by emergency personnel. Material and Supply Fees

We are now accepting applications to establish or adjust material and supply fees for the Spring and Summer 2006 terms. The decision to implement new or modified fee requests must be approved by the President by November 1st. Therefore, please submit your requests to me by October 7, 2005. Applications for the Fall 2006 semester will be accepted in January.
