President’s Response to La Casita Incident

Published: Mar 27th, 2001

Charles E. Young, President

I was shocked and disappointed to learn that the Institute for Hispanic Culture had been vandalized with a racial slur on Monday. Clearly, this incident is an indication that the University of Florida must continue to aggressively and candidly address issues of racial diversity and equality on this campus. While it is impossible for any institution to completely eradicate insensitive and inappropriate behavior, it is important that it be understood that at the University of Florida, such behavior will […]

Respect For All UF Students

Published: Mar 27th, 2001

James E. Scott, Vice President

The University of Florida has a very strong position of respect for all members of our community. We are obviously disappointed when any individual participates in an activity that violates this basic principle. While behavior such what occurred at La Casita on Monday is clearly not representative of our student body, we consider even an isolated event of this type to be unacceptable and intolerable. Should the individual(s) responsible for this act be identified as University of Florida […]

2001-2002 College/Department Awards to Students

Published: Mar 23rd, 2001

Karen Fooks, Director

Student Financial Affairs would like to remind colleges and departments of the need to notify our office, as soon as possible, of students receiving college-awarded scholarships, grants, fellowships, stipends, waivers, loans or funds of any type for the upcoming academic year. Federal and state regulations governing financial aid require the university to factor in all sources of assistance when awarding financial aid. In the event that aid has already been awarded or disbursed, regulations require an analysis of the student’s […]
