Beginning July 1, 1999, the UF equipment maintenance insurance program will change to Specialty Underwriters LLC, an affiliate of CNA Insurance. Many departments still have the potential for increasing their savings on the plan. Training Sessions on the new program are being coordinated by Operations Analysis. As a result of a major new freedom of information initiative to be conducted out of the University of Florida’s Brechner Center for Freedom of Information, the center’s long-time director and eminent scholar Bill Chamberlin is leaving the center director position to assume responsibility as director of the new project.
Assistant director of the Brechner Center, associate professor and media law attorney Sandra Chance will take over as Brechner Center director. The changes are effective July 1.

Melinda (Mindy) McAdams has been appointed the first Knight Chair in Journalism Technologies and the Democratic Process at the University’s College of Journalism and Communications.
As Knight Chair, McAdams will design and teach undergraduate and graduate courses and conduct research focusing on how technologies used to gather, analyze and disseminate news contribute to journalism’s role in developing a more informed citizenry.
