 I am pleased to announce that Julie A. Johnson, Pharm.D., has been named dean of the University of Florida College of Pharmacy.

 A faculty member of the college since 1998, Dr. Johnson served for nine years as chairwoman of the department of pharmacotherapy and translational research, and currently has more than $16 million in active grants. I’m confident that the college will flourish under her leadership.

Working with the three UF IRB’s (IRB-01, 02, 03), faculty stakeholders, and research deans in affected colleges, the Office of Research has developed guidelines to better define the qualifications needed to be a Principal Investigator (PI) of a human subjects research project.

President Machen recently announced the University of Florida would provide a salary increase plan for faculty and staff.

Under this program, effective October 1, 2013, eligible faculty earning $40,000 a year or less will receive an increase of $1,400 to their September 30 annual base salary. Approved Fringe Benefit Pool Rates Effective for Fiscal Year 2013-14

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has approved our proposed pooled fringe rates as submitted. The rates were effective July 1, 2013 and have been updated in the MyUFL system centrally.

New Policy on Posthumous and In Memoriam degrees

In order to provide a meaningful way to help families of UF students who pass away without completing all of the requirements for a degree, the Office of the Provost, in consultation with the Faculty Senate and the Division of Student Affairs, has developed a policy for the awarding of Posthumous Degrees and In Memoriam Degrees.

This policy is effective immediately, and is available at http://www.aa.ufl.edu/Data/Sites/18/media/policies/posthumous-degree-policy.pdf .
