It was mistakenly reported in today’s Gainesville Sun that the 11:30 a.m. dedication ceremony for the Nadine McGuire Theatre and Dance Pavilion has been postponed. The event is planned to take place as planned at the Constans Theatre.

Hurricane Frances has caused damage to property belonging to the University of Florida both within Alachua County and throughout the state.
Much of the cost to repair our facilities, grounds and equipment may be recovered through existing insurances or under FEMA. In addition, some or all costs of protective measures and labor costs beyond normal operations (e.g. overtime paid to essential staff) may also be recovered. Personal property is not claimable.

As a consequence of the damage wrought by Hurricane Frances, there have been several changes to the Presidential Inaugural Events. The changes that are most pertinent to you are those involving the Academic Symposia on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. President Machen has asked that these Symposia be cancelled at this time and perhaps re-scheduled at a later date.

All classes, activities and administrative offices at the University of Florida are cancelled through Tuesday, September 7th.
All Physical Plant Grounds Department employees are asked to report to work on Tuesday, September 7th as scheduled.
University officials continue to monitor local and regional conditions as they develop. It is anticipated that all classes, activities and administrative offices will resume normal schedules on Wednesday, Sept. 8th.

As part of the university’s hurricane preparedness plan all classes and scheduled activities have been cancelled for Friday, Sept. 3. All non-essential administrative offices will close at noon on Friday to allow employees the opportunity to prepare for the approaching storm. Under the plan, two UF buildings will be available as hurricane shelters: The Southwest Recreation Center and the J. Wayne Reitz Union.
