I am pleased to announce that Mr. Patrick C. Herring, Associate Director of Admissions at UF, has agreed to serve as Interim Director of Admissions. Pat will serve in this position for the next six months, during which time a new search will be launched for the permanent position.

Telles-Irvin Named UF’s New Vice President for Student Affairs

I am pleased to announce that I have named Patricia Telles- Irvin as the University of Florida’s next vice president for student affairs. She will begin her new duties at UF on Oct. 1, 2004.

Telles-Irvin (pronounced TAY-yes) currently is the senior vice president for student affairs and human resources at Florida International University in Miami, a position she has held since 2002, after serving as vice president of the same position since 1998.

Academic Learning Compacts – Gap Analysis

In April, the Florida Board of Governors adopted a resolution requiring each university in the SUS to devise an Academic Learning Compact (ALC) for each baccalaureate degree-granting program. See http://www.aa.ufl.edu/aa/alc/index.htm for a statement of the resolution and a one-page description of ALCs. UF needs to present its plan for ALCs to the FBOG in December 2004.

Office of Affirmative Action and Spousal Appointments

I am writing to let you know that effective July 1st, Associate Provost Debra King will begin assuming direction of the Office of Affirmative Action. Please contact her as you begin to address issues affecting her office in the coming calendar year.
