The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), a federal law passed in 1996, requires certain entities like the University of Florida to develop and implement procedures regarding electronic healthcare transactions and privacy and security of health data. As part of its transition from the Physical Plant Division to the Office of Information Technology, the Telecommunications Department will be improving the billing process for our customers.
Instead of the current process of receiving 5 separate mailed invoices for Telecommunications’ services (monthly line charges, monthly equipment maintenance charges, work orders, Suncom long distance and AT&T international long distance), we will ultimately transition our billing to an online format.
