In remembrance of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the University of Florida has organized a memorial service to be held a 3 p.m., Wednesday, September 11 at the University Auditorium. Process for Employment of Foreign Nationals without Permanently Assigned Social Security Numbers

As you may have read in the news media, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is cooperating with INS to insure that all foreign nationals are legally present in the country. The effect of this process on the University of Florida is that many of our newly arriving graduate assistants will not be assigned a social security number for up to 20 weeks. Social Security Numbers for Non-US Citizens

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has revised its policies to ensure the integrity of Social Security numbers for non-US citizens. These changes will result in a delay in the receipt of Social Security Numbers for non-citizens. However, in order for the university to accomplish its goals, we have developed a mechanism to allow the appointment of new employees while they wait for their SSN to be issued.
