“What the Heck is Going On Around Here?” is the question that the first annual Information Technology Day at UF will try to answer for faculty, staff, and students. “IT Day” is sponsored by the Office of the Chief Information Officer.

We are pleased to announce that the Employee Assistance Program is again available free of charge to all University of Florida faculty and staff-including OPS employees. The purpose of the EAP is to promote, maintain, and support a positive and productive workplace. 193,559 high-tech workers (6th ranked cyberstate), adding 9,100 jobs between 1996 and 1997.
Florida ranks 9th in high-tech job growth between 1990 and 1997, adding 23,900 high-tech jobs.
High-tech firms employ 35 of every 1,000 private sector workers in Florida.
High-tech workers earned an average wage of $42,984, or 65% more than the average private sector wage.

The Student Health Care Center (SHCC) is pleased to kick off another Fall Flu Shot Campaign starting Monday, October 11, 1999. Flu Shots will be available to UF Students, Faculty, and Staff at the SHCC (Infirmary), the SHCC @ Shands in Room A1-132 (in the Health Science Center), and a number of different sites around campus. Submission of Spring 2000 Course Adoption Information

The on-line textbook and course material adoption system was initiated in July, 1999. The prototype system contained information on Summer B and Fall 1999 course adoptions. The student viewing application was previewed during the Fall Semester drop/add period. Student users were asked for their comments and they overwhelmingly endorsed the system.

The Professional Development Leave program is available to employees with three years or more of service to the university, except those who are serving in tenure-earning or tenured positions. Such a leave is granted to employees to enhance their value to the university through opportunities for professional renewal, educational travel, study, formal education, research, writing, or other experience of professional value. Florida ranks 4th in state funding of R&D of all states (behind Texas, California and New York). Florida ranks 1st in support of basic research (R&D Magazine, January 1999).

According to Tactics (September 98) Publicity Watch, UF ranked 3rd for press coverage in athletic endeavors (UCLA 1st, Notre Dame 2nd) and 5th for press coverage of academics (UCLA 1st).
