Departmental Vehicle Purchases

In accordance with our ongoing efforts to move towards a sustainable campus the following purchasing directive has been established regarding the purchase of departmental vehicles.

1. It is the intent of the University to purchase only hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles.

2. Purchasing Services maintains a listing of available hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles by vehicle type and class at http://www.purchasing.ufl.edu/main_contracts-vehicles.asp#auto to assist departments with choosing a vehicle for purchase.

RGP Research Opportunity Fund Expands to Include All Colleges

The RGP Research Opportunity Incentive Seed Fund annually invites proposals for new, faculty-initiated, potentially large-scale research programs that are interdisciplinary. The College of Engineering and IFAS have agreed to contribute to the Research Opportunity Fund, and the program has been expanded to include IFAS and Engineering. All University faculty who are eligible to submit proposals to external funding agencies are eligible for the Opportunity Fund.

2006 Mileage Reimbursement Rate for Travel

The Federal General Services Administration (GSA) has released the standard mileage rates to use for 2006 in computing the reimbursement for operating an automobile for business purposes.

Beginning January 1, 2006, the standard mileage rates to reimburse for the use of a privately owned automobile for business purposes will be 44.5 cents a mile for all business miles driven.

Grants Pre-Award Fringe Calculation

In an effort to make the proposal process more accurate, a grants fringe calculation based on the employee’s actual expenses over the last thirty days will be implemented. The calculation will meet the university’s policy for fringe amounts to mimic actual fringe costs and will meet Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) cost procedures for calculating and charging fringe amounts to federal projects.

David Bloomquist has decided to step down as director of UCET effective January 3, 2006. As he returns full-time to research and teaching in the Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering, the Provost’s office thanks him for three years of dedicated service to university-wide teaching and learning. An interim director will be appointed after plans for future center development are complete.
