Fellowship Checks

We are accelerating payroll processing for this pay period for the university to make the September 11 stipend checks for pre- and post-doctoral fellows available at an earlier date. Several offices have worked together so that these checks will be available at noon on Tuesday, September 8 in the Payroll Office. Student Employment Appointment(s)

We would like to remind you that all students enrolled half-time or greater, except for graduate assistants, should be appointed through the Student Employment Section of Student Financial Affairs (SFA). This includes Federal Work Study (FWS) and Other Personnel Services (OPS) positions. There should be no concurrent appointments between SFA and University Personnel Services. Half-time enrollment is defined as:

Undergraduate
6 Credits
(any term)

Graduate
5 Credits
(fall or spring term)

Graduate
4 Credits

Updates to Employee Fee Waivers

Beginning in the 1998 Summer B Term an enhancement has been made to the Employee Fee Waiver procedures, which simplifies the process. Employees are no longer required to obtain an approval from University Personnel Services (UPS).

The required authorization signatures that must be obtained on the Fee Waiver Application form are as follows:

Dean of the College where course is offered
Chair of the Department where course is offered
Employee
Supervisor of employee
Department Head (If applicable) of the employee

Fee Surcharges

Included below is a copy of a memorandum recently mailed to students who are expected to be assessed the statutory repeat course surcharge. It will be mailed to all undergraduate students in September, when the majority of local student addresses are updated.

The “excess hours surcharge” will not be implemented this fall since no legislative authority has been provided for the 1998-99 academic year.

Please assure that this information is circulated to all staff and faculty advisors.

As announced in Controller’s Memorandum Number 99-04, issued August 7, 1998, effective August 24, 1998, the University has contracted with several travel agencies to provide travel services to the University of Florida. These travel agencies are referred to as “Preferred Travel Agencies”. Federal Work Study Institutional Matching

We are pleased to announce that effective August 12, 1998, the University of Florida will be changing the institutional match for Federal Work Study to 25%. This is a reduction from our current 30%, and will give colleges and departments a small increase in their funds for the academic year.

Information Services staff have made the appropriate adjustments to the payroll process, so no additional action is needed by the colleges/departments to implement this change.
