Effective July 1, 2007, the Florida Legislature passed significant changes to the laws relating to Veterans’ Preference.
CHANGES TO RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PROCEDURES:
Preference eligibility no longer expires upon appointment of the eligible person to a position with the state or any political subdivision in the state.
Current or previous employment with the state (or any covered entity) should no longer be considered when determining preference eligibility.

Effective November 1, 2007, each eligible faculty (including Postdoctoral Associates), TEAMS, and USPS employee who was hired on or before July 1, 2007, and has been continuously employed by the university through and including November 1, 2007, shall receive a non-recurring, one-time lump sum payment of $1,000. The International Educator of the Year Award was created in 2004 to recognize outstanding international endeavors by UF faculty members. This year, colleges are asked to choose at least one untenured or newly tenured faculty and one senior faculty member to receive the award for their college. Once submitted, this information is available on-line to all bookstores, providing both students and bookstores timely and correct information about textbook requirements. With your textbook adoption information, bookstores can begin the ordering process to ensure timely arrival of texts for Spring term. By knowing what texts are required, bookstores can provide students with better prices on book buybacks.

This year’s benefits Open Enrollment period for UF employees will kick off October 1 and end October 26. Open Enrollment is the only period during which changes to pre-tax employee benefits can be made unless you have a qualifying event (e.g., change in marital status, birth, adoption). Any changes made to elections during Open Enrollment will be effective January 1, 2008.
