UNIVERSITY TO CLOSE TUESDAY, JUNE 13, FOR TROPICAL STORM ALBERTO

All classes will be canceled and the campus will be closed at the University of Florida Tuesday, June 13, because of Tropical Storm Alberto. Only essential personnel should report for work.

University officials anticipate a return to normal class and business schedules on Wednesday, June 14.

Students, faculty and staff should monitor the UF Web site, www.ufl.edu, and local news media for all official announcements, including re-opening. Additional information is available at 1-866-UF FACTS.

This year the July 4th holiday falls on a Tuesday. In anticipation, many staff and faculty will plan to take vacation leave on Monday, July 3. Endowment Spending Policy

We are pleased to share with you the attached document that summarizes the recent changes made to the endowment spending policy. There are three significant changes:

1.  “investment value” will now be called “spending base” for better clarity;

2.  the spending base to market value ratio of each endowment fund will now be recalculated and adjusted if necessary quarterly (rather than twice a year);

3.  the range for this ratio will be raised from 80-90% to 85-95%.

Provost Lucinda Lavelli of the North Carolina School of the Arts has been named Dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Florida, effective July 1, 2006. Provost Lavelli earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Denison University and her Master of Fine Arts and Master’s of Nonprofit Management, both at Case Western Reserve University.

Centralized contract with The Chronicle of Higher Education

I am pleased to announce that the university has renegotiated a centralized contract for recruitment advertising with The Chronicle of Higher Education. The newly established contract will provide up to a 20% discount for all print display ads and an unlimited amount of web-only ads. The new contract represents significant savings on both print and web ads.
