FEMA Disaster Assistance for Homeowners and Renters

This notice will call attention to the assistance provided to individual homeowners and renters that suffered property damage during the recent hurricanes. UF administrators are encouraged to distribute this information to their employees.

Various types of assistance are available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in association with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Hurricanes Frances, Charley and Ivan Preparation and Damage Assessment Reporting

Hurricanes Charley, Frances and Ivan has caused damage to property belonging to the University of Florida both within Alachua County and/or our off-campus locations.

Much of the cost to repair our facilities, grounds and equipment may be recovered through existing insurances or under FEMA. In addition, some or all costs of protective measures (e.g. plastic sheets, plywood) and labor costs beyond normal operations (e.g. overtime paid to essential staff) may also be recovered. Personal property is not claimable.

This is a revision of the earlier “Student Tuition and Fees” Deans and Director memorandum dated August 9, 2004. This revision is necessary because the University has received information clarifying a change the legislature mandated in the manner that tuition is charged to out-of-state students. The University is very aware of the fact that a number of our graduate assistants have not received paychecks and apologies are extended to the graduate assistants who have been affected. Personnel at all levels and across the university are working hard to correct the problems. Today, the University Payroll Office issued over 200 emergency checks in response to the graduate assistants’ requests. The fee payment deadline for graduate assistants has been delayed.

Request for Proposals for Innovations in Uses of Technology in Instruction

The Office of Academic Technology is seeking proposals from UF faculty to conduct projects that improve teaching and learning outcomes. The purposes of the grants are to facilitate redesign of instructional approaches to enhance quality of teaching using technology and to reduce collateral costs of instruction.

University of Florida officials are closely monitoring Hurricane Ivan and the impact on local area conditions. Based on weather forecasts as of Tuesday at 11 a.m., the University of Florida plans to operate normal class and office schedules for the remainder of the week.

University of Florida officials are closely monitoring Hurricane Ivan. Based on the present track and speed of Hurricane Ivan as of Monday at 11 a.m., the University of Florida plans to operate normal class and office schedules on Tuesday, September 14th and Wednesday, September 15th.

UF officials will continue to monitor the National Weather Service for updates on Hurricane Ivan and will make further decisions regarding class and office schedules based on those updates.
