As most of you know, the federal minimum wage will increase to $5.15 as of September 1, 1997.
This increase will affect student pay rates at UF. The federal minimum wage applies to all hourly student work programs at the University of Florida, including the Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program and the Other Personnel Services (OPS) Program.

Each year Academic Affairs offers the opportunity to extend current assignments for 12 month OPS faculty, post-doctoral employees and 12 month graduate assistants (Job Code C) in the personnel/payroll system into the new fiscal year via a computer listing. This procedure eliminates the time and effort it would take to prepare appointment forms for these employees. This year we will also be including residents and interns in the process.

As provided in the Rental Vehicle Contract with Avis, effective May 1, 1997 an in-state excess mileage charge will apply to all in-state rentals that exceed an average of 100 miles per day.

In order to facilitate an orderly year-end closing and to encumber remaining funds, it is necessary to establish cut-off dates for all requisitions to purchase. These dates do not apply to contract and grant funds that do not expire June 30, 1997.

Departments should prepare blanket purchase orders and maintenance agreements for the 1997-98 fiscal year. Blanket orders and maintenance agreements with attachments should be submitted on a Requisition to Purchase, form (PUR300), with an annotation of “FY1997-98.” Routine blankets and maintenance requisitions without attachments may be sent electronically beginning June 30.
