Appointment of Elizabeth Auer as Interim Director of University Performing Arts

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Auer as Interim Director of UF
Performing Arts, effective August 1. She will continue in that capacity until the search
process for a new permanent director is completed and the new director is prepared to
take the reins.

Michael Blachly will continue to work as director of planning and operations for the
presidential investiture throughout the fall semester.

Please join me in welcoming Elizabeth to her new position.

UF emergency exercise planned

A UF emergency exercise is planned for Thursday morning (July 30) in and around Ben Hill Griffin
Stadium between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The exercise will involve volunteers with simulated injuries, law enforcement agencies,
fire departments and other public safety personnel. UF police officers will be stationed
around the exercise area to help direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic. There will also be
public safety vehicles stationed near the South side of the stadium.

Since diplomatic relations are being restored with Cuba with the embassy reopening on July 20, 2015, Florida laws restricting the use of University funds for travel to certain foreign countries will no longer apply to Cuba. Jonathan D. Licht, M.D., an internationally known expert in blood cancers, has been appointed director of the University of Florida Health Cancer Center. His appointment will be effective Oct. 1.

On July 1, 2015, the University of Florida will launch “Think About It,” a state of the art
interactive online training course designed to prepare college students for the challenges
and responsibilities of college life. In addressing the interconnection between drug and
alcohol abuse, hookup culture, and sexual violence, it encourages students to reflect
critically on the personal beliefs, social norms, and cultural pressures that enable high-risk
