Departments may now request special pay increases (SPIs) for the following two circumstances: 1) increased job responsibilities and 2) confirmed counter offers for USPS and TEAMS employees. These increases will require approval from the respective vice president of each budgetary unit.

Effective January 1, 2005, the University is required to begin collecting the Alachua County one quarter percent discretionary sales surtax or the Indigent Healthcare Surtax (CHOICES). This surtax applies to the sale or use of taxable merchandise or taxable services delivered into Alachua County and are applied in addition to the State’s six percent sales tax. Starting today, university departments may begin the process of awarding merit increases to eligible USPS and TEAMS employees. These merit increases will be effective January 28 and must be entered by 5:00 P.M. on January 14. This deadline is very important since these increases will not be implemented later either retroactively or via “off-cycle” checks.

The Internal Revenue Service has released the standard mileage rates to use for 2005 in computing the reimbursement for operating an automobile for business purposes.
Beginning January 1, 2005, the standard mileage rates to reimburse for the use of an automobile for business purposes will be 40.5 cents per mile for all business miles driven. This is up from 37.5 cents a mile in 2004.
