The Florida Legislature has updated the Sunshine Law regarding the use, collection and request for Social Security numbers by state agencies, including the University of Florida.
The updated policy goes into effect Oct. 1.
It requires all UF departments and units using Social Security numbers for any purpose to provide written notification about the collection and use of Social Security numbers.

The University on Friday will observe a moment of silence to mark the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The observance will begin at 9:11 a.m. In addition, a candlelight vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Friday on the Plaza of the Americas next to the 9-11 Never Forget Project, a memorial with 2,977 flags representing each person killed in the attacks.
