Federal Regulatory Changes for H-1B Employment

There are two changes in Federal Regulations which will impact UF in the hiring of foreign nationals in the H-1B classification. Ceremonies: Spring college commencement ceremonies will be held on Thursday, April 28 – Sunday, May 1, 2005. Please see the Commencement Website at http://www.registrar.ufl.edu/commencement/ for college specific information.

Ordering Regalia: The deadline for ordering academic regalia is Friday, February 25, 2005. Information on ordering regalia is available from the UF Bookstore (392-0194). Payment is required when placing an order; this payment is refundable until Wednesday, April 27. Formal academic regalia are required for all faculty members attending commencement.

The revised schedule for closing the Time & Labor (T&L) and “Confirming” (payroll calculation close process) the bi-weekly payroll may be viewed at: http://fa.ufl.edu/payroll/paydays-2004-2005.asp

We are essentially closing T&L a day earlier. This change has been made to improve the processing for the departmental administrators, as well as the Central Payroll and Human Resource core offices. Employees’ W-2 forms for 2004 will be disbursed to departments from University Tax Services (24 Tigert Hall) on Thursday, January 27, 2005. We will be furnishing each department two sets of W-2 forms. International Curriculum Awards Competition

Correct or Update Directory Information

Many employees are not receiving important personnel information because their addresses are incorrect within the University of Florida Directory. The UF Directory is the sole authoritative source of employee addresses and is used to generate mailings for W-2s, benefits information, and other important campus-wide updates. Because departments are not required to correct employees’ contact information in the UF directory, all employees are responsible for correcting and updating their own contact information within the directory.
